A quick look at the top 100 NFL players

Top 100, whether you like it or not, is a highlight of the offseason for NFL fans, a list that is built up of players, by the players, it does obviously have issues in that it has bias towards recent achievements and the fact that some players have friends/ bias towards certain players. But that being said it does allow for some good analysis of what a player does to the players around him in the game. I’m just going to take you through a whistle stop tour through what I thought was interesting and then show you the team (offence and defence) selected by the players as the “best”.

There is one team that has NO players on it (I should say by that I mean going into the new season), I asked the writers here to guess the team, and had the usual guesses: Browns, 49ers, Ravens. But no. The team with no players listed in the top 100 is… Chicago Bears, which I was shocked at. Alshon Jeffrey would have been one player I would have thought would have snuck into the 100 best players in the league, the player that did make it in was Matt Forte, who has gone to Jets for the next season.

The best team based on the number of players included? Panthers? Broncos? Nope. Chiefs! That in my eyes shows that the Chiefs roster is stacked and should really be pushing for more progression in the playoffs. They had 9 players in that list- so had 9% of the total players- that’s more that the NFC East & NFC North had as divisions!!

The best team (starting with the highest ranking player in each position):

QB: Cam Newton
HB: Adrian Peterson
WR: Antonio Brown, Julio Jones, Odell Beckham JR
TE: Rob Gronkowski
OT: Joe Thomas, Tyron Smith
G: Marshall Yanda, Richie Incognito
C: Ryan Kalil
DT: Geno Atkins, Aaron Donald
DE: JJ Watt, Khalil Mack
LB: Luke Kuechly, Von Miller, Justin Houston
CB: Josh Norman, Patrick Peterson
S: Tyrann Mathieu, Kam Chancellor
