Why The Browns Can Win Tonight

The Cleveland Browns are 0-9, the only winless team in the NFL, allowing over 30 points per game. Tonight they face the 4-4 Baltimore Ravens. So why do I think they can win?

The Browns are averaging only 18.7 points per game. However the Ravens are scoring only slightly more at 19.2. As bad as the Browns have looked this year the Ravens have been equally bad at times. They only narrowly beat the Browns in their first meeting of the year 25-20. That was with the woeful Josh McCown at quarterback. The Browns are a better team than the one that played that day.

The Baltimore Ravens are stout against the run, averaging just 76.1 yards a game. Last time the teams met Isaiah Crowell had their number as he rushed for 133 yards. He could be the Ravens Kryptonite. The Browns run game will be looking to prove a point after being largely ineffective against the Cowboys last week.

Against the Cowboys they were outmatched. They Cowboys destroyed the Bengals 35-10 and Cleveland struggled to make any progress moving the ball. It was Corey Coleman’s first game back after breaking his hand in training. Against a Ravens team that has struggled against the pass he’s likely to see more space. The Ravens will also seek to hit Terrelle Pryor often, as he looks to be a mismatch for most cornerbacks.

Cody Kessler is the Browns best option at quarterback and has a 96.1 passer rating. If the Browns can keep him upright and on the field then they have a good chance of getting their first win and causing an upset. By comparison Joe Flacco is not having his best year. His passer rating is only 76.0 and he’s thrown more interceptions (7) than touchdowns (6). This one could be dependent on which QB shines brightest in the Thursday night lights.
