Kirk’s Giant Game

Kirk’s Giant Game

So, it all comes down to this for the Redskins this week; victory over the Giants would all but clinch a playoff birth for a second straight season. Despite the Giants already having clinched the 5th seed in the playoffs, there are so many fascinating storylines in this game. Hence why it was moved to 9:25pm UK time, a prime American TV time.

Obviously the main reason to be watching this game (Live on Sky Sports) will be to see if the Redskins can follow-up their surprise 2015 playoff appearance with a more expected one this year. On the whole this Redskins team has an offence that’s too good not to be in the post-season, even if it means one of Detroit or Green Bay misses out.  And if they do get through it would likely be Atlanta or Seattle, both of which would be winnable games before a potentially huge game v Dallas.

Another sub-plot to watch in this game is the huge magnitude this game will have on Cousins’ chance of becoming one of the highest paid NFL players this off-season. Coming to the table with “Hey, in my two seasons as a starter I got you to the playoffs twice” is a hell of a lot more convincing than “Well I got us there last year and just underwhelmed a bit this year”. Plus, it will really show he can come up in the clutch and put the huge egg he laid against Carolina firmly in the rear-view mirror.

Finally, and it’s odd to think this could be overlooked given the fire involved; but it’ll be the third installment of Josh Norman v OBJ which hasn’t disappointed as yet. This could well play a pivotal role in the outcome of this game. If Norman can shut down OBJ to some extent, it makes the Giants offence incredibly pedestrian, even for a timid Redskins defence that struggles with the pass.

This is arguably the biggest game of the weekend apart from the Green Bay v Detroit, winner takes all clash on Sunday Night Football. It will be well worth a watch with the stakes so high for the Redskins, and the Giants hardly wanting to let their divisional rivals into the dance.

I'm Blake, and I'm a big Washington Redskins fan despite their best efforts to put me off the first few years I watched NFL. You may find me either swearing at a computer or standing in a baseball field.
