CFL week – like comic con for CFL fans!

CFL week – like comic con for CFL fans!

From March 21st to 26th the Canadian Football League is holding ‘CFL Week’ a chance for CFL fans to get incredible levels of access to CFL players, leading prospects, coaches and even the commissioner. This is an event designed to appeal to fans of football north of the US border, but also you feel to broaden the appeal of the league itself. There are few professional sports that would give you this level of access, in one place, over a set time frame, across the league.

In the words of CFL commissioner Jeffrey Orridge, “It’s going to be social, it’s going to be big, and it’s going to be up close and personal”

This is the CFL reaching out and using it accessibility to interact with and appeal to a diverse range of fans. They plan to do that by offering a ‘CFL fan fest’, a free 5 day event where fans can get autographs, attend Q&A sessions, see CFL panels and interviews, play CFL skills based games and even see potential CFL stars of the future.

The past is not being forgotten either as part of the week long festivities include a CFL Hall of Fame reception. Alongside this, there are free combine events for fans to attend, university teams taking a passing challenge, flag football events for kids, you be the ref clinics and much more.

In all fairness it sounds like a great event, but for fans based in the UK, the likelihood of attending a week long event like this in Regina, Saskatchewan is somewhere around the zero per cent mark!

Fans who cannot attend though are still being accounted for. The website will be streaming shows live from the fan fest or you can subscribe for live notifications on Facebook. There is a tweetup taking place on the 21st March, look out for the hashtag #MarksCFLTweetUp, there will be live chats with players on the CFL twitter, Facebook and Instagram platforms, and the CFL combine will be streamed live.

So there you have it, all round access to a broad range of events going on in the CFL for its first ever CFL week – even if you are across the pond!
