CFL fan week – let the festivities begin.

CFL fan week is back. Last year we described it as like comic con for CFL fans: http://www.nflgirluk.com/2017/03/18/cfl-week/  It appears the CFL is determined to build on the success of that first fan festival in Saskatchewan last year by matching it in Winnipeg this year.

Some of the  Canadian Football League’s biggest stars and potential future pros will be in Winnipeg this month as part of the second annual CFL Week running from March 21st to 25th. Alongside this there will also be the CFL Week Fan Fest entertainments, which will include an 80-yard by 40-yard football field being installed in the middle of proceedings, where people can see 2018 CFL Draft prospects at the CFL Combine, as well as allied activities.

“We created CFL Week to share our best with the best fans in the world,” CFL commissioner Randy Ambrosie said in a statement. “This is where we showcase our stars, audition our prospects, honour our legends and, most of all, deliver all sorts of fun for fans. There is no off-season for our fans’ passion and CFL Week celebrates that.”

Many of the events from the first ever fan week last year in Regina have survived into this year. Media and fan access to the league’s top 50 players, a Hall of Fame and player gala dinner, a coaches media session, a passing showcase tournament, a fan fest and the CFL’s national combine are all back for example.

The league announced on Tuesday that a total of 53 CFL stars will be making their way to the fan festival. The confirmed players are listed below by team:

Winnipeg

Darvin Adams, Adarius Bowman, Weston Dressler, Andrew Harris, Maurice Leggett, Taylor Loffler & Matt Nichols.

BC

Fans will have access to all players and coaches in attendance, through autograph sessions and various Q-and-A segments throughout the week.

Highlights of the event that stand out for me include the chance to get your picture taken with the Grey Cup, hall of fame announcements, autograph sessions and the chance for fans to test skills on the ‘football frenzy field’. A full list of the goings on were released by the CFL here:  https://press.cfl.ca/52-players-confirmed-for-marks-cfl-week-in-winnipeg

While UK fans may not be heading out to Winnipeg there is still the opportunity to follow along. The combine will be streamed and cfl.ca will no doubt offer plenty of updates. Let the fan festivities commence!
