Friday morning will see many UK NFL fans watching through bleary eyes to see who their team can add as the next superstar. With this in mind I’m going to be looking at the positions that each team in the AFC North should look to address. First up is the Cincinnati Bengals. They’re a team whose needs I’m aware of having drafted for them in the #NFLUKMock draft.
The Bengals finished with a 7-9 record last year and really struggled along the oline. Although they traded for former Buffalo tackle Cordy Glenn they’ll need more help along the line. Picking at number 21 in the first round there should be plenty of talent available and I expect them address the interior line first. Perhaps Iowa centre James Daniels could better guy? As we move in to days two and three they may look to add help at tackle.
Cornerback Adam Jones was not retained after his recent brush with the law and although the team has some talent here a nickel corner could be on the cards. At the very least they need to add some depth here.
Last year’s backup quarterback, AJ McCarron, wasn’t resigned after he secured his free agent status and incumbent starter Andy Dalton has really hit the performance levels that at his his contact. While some of this was due to the play calling last year if a player like Louisville star, quarterback Lamar Jackson, is available then I believe the Bengals would have to think hard about taking him. In the #NFLUKmock I addressed the position by adding Reece’s Senior Bowl MVP, Richmond’s Kyle Lauletta in round 3.
Linebacker Vontaze Burfict is expected to serve a four-game suspension for violating the NFL’s performance-enhancing drug and none of the other Bengals linebackers stood out in 2017. The team added Preston Brown in free agency but the need for some impact players, especially a coverage linebacker could see the team could add one or two picks here.
When healthy Tyler Eifer is one of the better receiving tight ends available, however he has missed more games than played (41 of 83 total games, including the playoffs). I’d expect a day three pick of UDFA to help here. #NFLUKMock The NFL UK mock draft is nearing its completion. The picks I made address a lot of the needs I’ve identified and a few I haven’t. I’d love to hear your feedback on Twitter @Cumbleton.
