Guest Blog: Green Bay Packers 2015 season preview by Dylan Baker

Where else to start but the reigning MVP? Green Bay quarterback Aaron Rodgers is both statistically and aesthetically unparalleled. Last season he threw for 4,381 yards, 38 touchdowns and only 5 interceptions, and that wasn’t even his best season in recent memory! Extraordinarily, he will head into the 2015 season having not thrown a pick at Lambeau field since the 2nd December 2012.

Green Bay also employ one of the league’s top receiving corps, led by Jordy Nelson and Randall Cobb. Nelson possesses criminally underrated size and speed, as well as excellent ball security and a fantastic football brain, and Cobb is without doubt the best slot receiver in the NFL. An almost telepathic understanding has formed between Cobb and Rodgers, illustrated by the fact that in 2014 they combined to give Rodgers a QB Rating of 134.3 (1,287 yards, 12 TD, 1 INT), a tandem unrivalled elsewhere in the league.

A powerful running game spear-headed by Eddie Lacy and a formidable offensive line built around rock-solid second year centre Corey Linsley creates the perfect blend and balance to the authoritarian passing attack. On defense the Packers have replaced the departing Tramon Williams and Davon House at cornerback with the first two picks in this year’s draft – Damarious Randall and Quinten Rollins –  and will be stronger up-front with the return of mountainous nose tackle BJ Raji.

Clay Matthews returns for his seventh year as leader of the linebacking corps, and will be joined once more by 14 year veteran Julius Peppers, who enjoyed somewhat of a renaissance in 2014 recording eight sacks and 31 total tackles.

The schedule has been very kind to Green Bay in 2015, with the games against their toughest opponents (Seattle, Dallas and San Diegreen-bay-packers.gi.topgo) all at Lambeau Field. They also host the Kansas City Chiefs and St Louis Rams in games they will be confident of emerging victorious. Their road games will not cause too many sleepless nights either, with winnable journeys to San Francisco, Denver, Carolina, Oakland and Arizona.

In my eyes they are the best team in the NFL, and will set multiple records on offense this season, eventually entering the playoffs as the number one seed after losing no more than two games. Rodgers will be crowned league MVP for the second straight year, in addition to being awarded the Super Bowl MVP award.
