Week 2 NFL preview: Divisional clashes, playoff rematches, and history in the making

The upcoming slate of games for NFL’s Week 2 is set to be an exhilarating one. Fans are in for a treat, from divisional matchups to potential record-setting games. Here’s what to expect:

1. Marquee Matchups Await

Week 2 will be chock-full of action, with six divisional games on the line. Moreover, fans will witness not one but two Monday night games, making it a double-header treat.

2. Nail-Biters in Review

The season has kicked off on an intense note, with 11 out of the Week 1 games coming down to a mere score difference in the fourth quarter. Looking back at 2022, there were a whopping 203 games with similar thrilling finishes — the most ever in a season.

3. High Scorers Alert Week

Week 1 saw seven teams making a strong statement by putting up more than 30 points on the board. Notably, the Rams and the 49ers are part of this elite list and scheduled for a face-off at SoFi Stadium in Week 2. Both teams also made defensive headlines by restricting their opponents to 14 points or less in the opening week.

4. Top Draft Picks Showdown

The talent from the 2023 NFL Draft is ready to be on full display as three of the top four picks will clash when the Colts visit the Texans. Football enthusiasts will be keen to watch the performances of QB CJ Stroud (No. 2), DE Will Anderson (No. 3), and QB Anthony Richardson (No. 4).

5. Road Warriors

A surprising ten teams emerged victorious on the road in Week 1. Historically, only the seasons of 1983 and 2006 witnessed more away wins during their respective opening weeks. An additional 12 teams will hope to replicate this success as they play their first road game in Week 2.

6. Playoff Flashbacks

For those who are nostalgic, two games in Week 2 will be a vivid reminder of last year’s playoffs. Both the Ravens vs. Bengals and Chiefs vs. Jaguars fixtures are rematches from the nail-biting one-score encounters of the 2022 postseason. Interestingly, these are just two of the 14 scheduled games 2023 that serve as playoff rematches.

7. Setting the Scoreboard Ablaze

The matchup between the Seahawks and the Lions has been a high-scoring affair in their last two encounters, combining for a staggering 80 points at the very least. Their showdown last season culminated in a whopping 93 points – the highest combined score of any NFL game in 2022. As they meet again in Detroit this Sunday, they can make history. If they manage to put up 80 points or more, it’ll be the first time in NFL history that teams have achieved this feat in three back-to-back games.

Week 2 promises to be a rollercoaster ride for NFL fans. There’s something in store for everyone, whether it’s the playoff rematches, potential record-breaking games, or the debut of top draft picks.
